I am in the market for a new MP3 player to take to the gym. I know this topic has been done before but new models come out, prices change , etc, so I just wanted an up-to-date opinion before I go out and buy a player.

    here is what i need:

256-512 MB (to keep cost down) *prefer a 512*
    MUST HAVE arm band included
    fm radio is a plus
under $75 ( i know there are plenty to be had for this price, just not sure what one)

Please offer any suggestions or if you are pleased w/your mp3 player, please post a picture and how much it costs, etc. I have heard good things about Creative players and they are on the cheaper side.

    Thanks

I got a sony walkman somethingorother 1GB for $110 at walmart. I'm sure the 512's are much cheaper... but you may want to just suck it up and spend some extra cash to get a 1GB, you'll be happier with it.

first of all, BASKETballer is what my my user name means. secondly, I just graduated college and don't have all this extra cash lying around.......most goes into the savings.

If I am using it for the gym (and occassionally fishing), it will most likely get beat up at some point>

Are the hard drive ones (30GB and above) still convenient to workout with?

Considering getting one this week...any suggestions at that?

Any 30gig drive is going to be disk based, which I wouldn't suggest for the gym.

You want solid state memory - no moving parts to jar while moving. It limits you to about 4 gig, but that's still a crap-load of music.

The only reason I would ever consider getting a multi gigger would be if I was going to adapt it to my car stereo. Other than that, I dont see the point. Nobody is going to use or listen to that many tunes at one time.

haven't seen one that does that yet. If you are considering for comic books, the screen is too small for enjoyment as you will need to either shrink the images or scroll through it

Nah not comic books...just some of the fitness e-books.
But it does seem pretty impractical thinking about it now.

I have the 30GB Ipod Video. It can read .PDF's or what?

Also, how do you get vids on there? My ipod doesn't recognize a single one of my video formats.

Hmm. I'll have to do something about getting some .mp4 encoded lifting vids. I want to bring some to remind myself of intensity and form while training.
