after the holidays I am moving up to DSLR land.
    currently have a Canon S3

I am looking at the D40.
what lenses do you guys recommend?

    I generally take indoor pics
    - kung fu, soccer...
    party pics
    - decent zoom would be nice
    outdoor
    - i like flowers and waterfalls (ya, gay)

I wold like to get everythng for ~1000 - 1200
how are sigma lenses compared to nikor?

thanks in advance for the help
I am not dumb when it comes to photography, just wanna make the most informed decision possible.
