In my pcs experiences you didn't have to box anything and weren't really supposed to. I packed my more delicate stuff but left the boxes open so they could verify serial #'s and inspect anything if need be.

Grab anything you dont want to go missing... DVDs CDs... Computer... etc. Dont let them touch it if you can. TVs can go, personal stuff that can't be replaced needs to stay with you.

Even worse. Watch your small items like a hawk. People like to pocket jewlery and other small items. Anything that is not on the list when the movers come to inventory you can kiss goodbye.

all the important stuff has been said. don't waste time boxing stuff yourself since they'll just unbox it and re-box it anyway. take anything you can't replace with you. be friendly to the movers and offer them water/soda/snacks.

i've had pretty good luck so far with TMO, but it's still a gamble every time.

Beer is not a good idea. Pizza is. They will take anything you dont want also. One guy took my grill that had no bottom in it. I was going to throw it out, he wanted it so I gave it to him.

    True Story:

I used TMO to move to one dorm from the other. Seeing the expression on the dorm managers face was priceless when he found out. The movers said he was going to my room to bitch me out for being so lazy.

So he knocked on my door, I got up, used my crutches and went to the door, and he didn't have anything to say ;)

Sometime last year here at Altus, there were contracted movers that TMO had were working drunk. It happened twice so they fired them.

Local move only means that the same crew has more control over your stuff than they normally would.

I have lost valuables in every single move I made. In my 5.5 years in the Air Force, and my dad's 24 years in the Navy, never once did we PCS without losing something that we wanted to keep.

Inventory everything, including serial numbers and a brief description and estimate of the value. It will help you when you try to get reimbursed for any loses after the move.

They like to take ladies underwear and lingerie too, it seemed to happen to a third of the females (that I knew) that moved when I was in.

lol when we psced from florida to england i had 3 dudes show up
2 white guys and 1 black dude
right from the start the boss fatter white guy and big brooly black guy get into a word fight and almost ended it a fist fight
so the black dude just sat on my porch smoking a big cigar until the company could come pick his ass up

now im from ny so shit like that doesnt bother me im not going to cry to the company about it, i wanted to see a fight haha

but im like look bitches pack my shit and shut up...
eventually i had like 7 people in the house.. the ladies i had wer enuts
she wanted anything i didnt want.. my ghetto ass abused computer desk that we actually broke moving it outside.. it was gone the next day though haha i guess she drove to my house cuz they couldnt get it on the truck

i just packed small things into boxes so they could inventory it and repack it... we kept all the expenisve things and took them with us

i didnt lose anything and only a few things were damaged and i still need to claim it

really just make sure you look over the inventory sheet they give you and make sure you agree with the damage report they write up for items
