why is it that when i play movies in any format i have to turn up the volume to basically MAX? its really quite annoying. whilst watching a movie on my iMac, its not uncommon to have an earthquake caused by the thundering sound of someone sending me an IM, or the computer telling me that "it's eight o'clock."

    how do i fix this??

a lot of movies are quiet, unless you are using external speakers you really notice it.

in quicktime while not full screen: cmd + j, turn the volume + bass up, then select audio track, volume up again.
