my mouse keeps freezing. its been doing it on my computer for a while, with several different mice, but lately its gotten worse. i used to have a ball mouse with a ps2 connection and now im using a usb optical mouse and its still bad.

the cursor will freeze somewhere on the screen, when it does i have to move it around real quick and it comes back and moves again about half the time. the other half the cursor is just frozen, i can use the mouse but i cant see where it is pointing.

run anti virus and came up with nothing, made sure the mouse drivers are updated and everything

any ideas? its really frustrating when i have to restart my computer as much as im having to

Either the mouse is bad or maybe your USB port is damaged? Its not a wireless mouse is it? If it is you might have to install the drivers for it or change the batteries

    not a wireless mouse.

i dont think its the mouse or the usb port because its happened with several mice, both usb and ps2

try going into Control Panel - System - Hardware Tab - Device manager, theres a catagory in there for mice. Check if it says working properly

Sounds like one of a few things off the top of my head.

    1. Background process slowing up your computer
    2. Dirty mouseball on first mouse/ bad surface for laser mouse. (not likely)

What anti-virus did you run? Does your mouse work better for a while after you restart and get progresively worse?

Does it happen on any website, or is it limited to a few?

I haven't seen it happen in a while, but websites used to be able to mess with your computer through netbios and cause freeze up problems like that.

You could try to disable that to see if it helps.
