Just curious about how those of you without rail systems on your ARs mount lights. I know about the Surefire M500, but I'm not really interested in changing the handgaurd configuration.

I'm not sold on the idea of barrel clamps, I would think that a front sight base mounted light would provide more stability.

I know SOG makes a tri-rail that bolts on, which seems nice if you want a light and some type of IR device; along with your sling mount (link here: http://www.sogarmory.com/ProductDtls.aspx?id=102447).

I have also heard of the surefire 674 (link: http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/prrfnbr/532/sesent/00/Classic-Front-Sight-Post-Mounted-Modular-Systems); these mounts put the light in the same position that the M500 would.

Are there any other options that I can consider? Thanks. :wavey:

Someone a while back posted pics of standard handguards with a hidden integrated rail system on the top and bottom. I thought it was pretty cool, but I didn't save the info, since I already had a YHM forend.

It's like... oh, I didn't put enough thought into my build, how can I hang this shit off my AR, cheap like?

It's a personal opinion.. not a judgment. Your gun, you're the one that needs to be happy with it.

YHM is quality. But if you didn't want the railed look, check out those covers I posted earlier. Pull the covers, clamp on the VFG, tapeswitch and light, and leave it out for use. Range time.. swipe off the VFG/Light and put the covers back on. Seems like win win.
