I was wondering if any one owned this cell phone and could give me the low down on it.

Especially can I use Mp3s as my ring tones on it... because I would really like a phone that could do that.

either way you should be able to hack it.

I picked up the data cable for mine off Ebay but never actually got around to hacking it. Tough part was finding the one particular program used in the hacking process. Howard Forums won't allow a download link to be posted on their site and the way that they told you to download it was written a couple years ago. (search for some file via google - I got a couple hits but neither worked)

I've got a buddy who's opened up his for almost anything via info off howardforums.

As for the phone in general...
Ringer is LOUD AS HELL, even set to full queit. Take that how you will.
    Vibration is weak.
Usability is good - I preferred the way my old LG was set up for adding multiple numbers under a single contact, but the 815 works for that (guess I"m used to the way this is set up now)
Hinge seems flimsy to me (again in relation to the tank of a LG I used to have) but it's held up fine over a year + of hard use.

In general my phone is relatively beat to crap but still works fine and gets great reception in poor reception areas.

what is mentioned in the above post is true and i actually hacked it... as long as you know what you are doing and follow steps exactly, you can unlock it easily... i now have a free portable 2gb mp3 player...

I have this phone for verizon & can bypass this.
You just need a tflash card to do it.

Phone is a POS. I went through 6 of them in 1 year, freezes up and shuts down in the middle of a text etc. Hated that phone. But very easy to hack.

yea, i pretty much did nothing but mod the shit out of that phone when i had it. lol

  10. For the Verizon version atleast, you can't use mp3's as ringtones (sorta). If you have a transflash card and you want to use your own ringtones you will need to edit the song to around 30 seconds and under 200kb (i believe). Then you have to rename the extension as a .midi file. Then you put the card in your phone and send the file in a text to yourself. Then save the file to the phone (not the card). Go to the sounds on the phone and set it as a ringtone.

It has the typical motorola charging issues, and like already said will power off an on intermittantly. Other than that it is a good phone and gets good reception. And yes the Alltel one can use mp3's as ringtones.

Not true, in regards to the OP's question.

Yes, you can use mp3's as ringtones on this phone with no hacking to it at all. You can't use full length mp3's as ringtones, not exactly sure why one would want to anyway considering the phone only rings for 30 seconds at most.
You can use mp3's as ringtones, just not full length songs.

File size limit on ringtones is 300kb.

No need to rename to .mid, .mp3 works just fine.

When you send the test messg to yourself, make sure your phone is in airplane mode.
