So, not quite 2 years ago my aunt (My dads sister) was out mowing her lawn when an elderly woman crossed over the yellow line, thru oncoming traffic and into my aunts yard hitting her and killing her instantly. Less than 6 months later my uncle was already dating a woman, has now proposed and asked me to shoot their wedding in July.... Talk about awkward....:ugh:

I think they expected a freebie... when I said I was available on that date I had a reply from her within minutes... I gave them my rates and haven't heard anything in 5hrs.

Good job. I'd charge even more to deal with that situation

    odd. Very odd sir.

I do like the people who have constant instantaneous email communication with you and when you send them rates it completely ceases.

I had a girl wanting Christmas family photos done. I sent her rate at the time ($200 for the hour sitting with me traveling to them included)
she was oh so very excited. Then I ask to get things scheduled and when would be good for them, and she asked is prints were included. I said "No they are not. But you can buy online or blah blah blah..." Never another word from her. LOL

I later found a horrible photo of them with their dog in the back yard with everything behind them lit up except for them.

I had one like that of a woman my mother in law works with daughter. she loved my work of my boys wanted me to take pics of her new son gave her my rates and even cut her a little break because she was a friend of my wifes from highschool (not much, I think it was throwing in a free 8x10 or soemthing) Anyway.. I never heard back from her and heard from my mother in law that she went to some place that charges 9.99 for portrait sittings... a few days later the pics showed up on my wifes facebook and they were just awful.

I hope the rates you gave them were actually higher than your real rates

it's truly a great thing when you get a client who really values photography.

btw... I think you mean "perceptions"

I think one of the "alt" meanings for conceptions would technically work in that scenario... but perceptions fits better :o

I completely think this now...but 3 years ago when my daughter was a newborn the world of DSLRs and SLRs was sooo foreign to me. Regrettably, I shot so many shots during those early stages of her life with a Canon P&S (S3). I think as we're more aware of what's out there we expect and more...although I had a lot more money when my P&S and it's 10x optical zoom was the only camera I had. :hsd:

BTW, sorry to hear about the tragic death and then of course your uncle/ex-uncle and his particular way of coping with the situation at hand.

Reminds me a little of one day when I was at my aunt's house a few days before the rest of the family showed up for xmas. She had a bunch of pictures taken off the wall and spread out on the table. I asked her what she was doing. "Cropping out or replacing photos of all the divorced exes in the photographs." But one of them wasn't a divorce. It was my cousin's dead husband who had since been replaced.

ya but, not everyone recognizes "good pics".

Hell, do you remember a time before had your first lobster or filet mignon? When chowing on Taco Bell was good eats?

Ya snapshots look just great to some people.

Point out something like bokeh, and they look at you with that same puzzled look as when you give commands to your dog that he doesn't understand.
