Who do you think is the most talented lyricist of our time? Personally I would have to say Mf Doom...anyway, just post your response.
And please don't post if you were thinking about saying some bullshit like Lil White or Lil Jon or any other rappers like that.

I'm sure there are better ones out there, but of the bands I listen too I'd have to say Ted Leo of "Ted Leo and the pharmacists" he always uses such intresting big words and I find his lyrics extremely intresting.

my man illogic can't be touched

"my cousin had a baby out of wedlock and they disowned her
should I risk losing one family to start my own?
or if I don't have it, will he hate me, and make me stand alone
leaving me to hold this bag of bricks and carry it for a lifetime
while he can relieve the pain by just going home and writing a rhyme?
at that point he pulls her close, whispers "I love you" to her lobes
unbeknownst to the dichotomy in the beauty that he beholds
    "

I agree that Roger Waters wrote some awesome lyrics.

but Cedric Bixler-Zavala of the Mars Volta takes the #1 spot for me

Always appreciated Thom Yorke's lyrics. They have always spoken to me in a differn't way to other lyricists for some reason. The best song writer at the moment has to be Pete Doherty to me. Yeah he is a junkie and hellbeant on destroying his life but he writes great tunes.

Dustin Kensrue from Thrice writes amazing lyrics.

"i want to take the bullet,
the one aimed straight for your heart,
i want to meet the wolves halfway,
and let them tear me apart.
but that's not the way they do it here.

i want to lay on the tracks,
feel hot steel screaming at me,
expose the bones on my back,
let me show you what i mean.
yeah its a different kind of love,
i want to climb barbed wire fences
and warm our hands in blood.

    and this is my gift,
    is asking you to fix
    my ruined hands.
and its a gift that keeps on giving,
and its a gift that keeps on giving,
and its a gift that keeps on giving,
and right now its all i have to give.

i want to lay on the tracks,
feel hot steel screaming at me,
expose the bones on my back,
let me show you what i mean
i want to lay on the tracks,
feel hot steel screaming at me,
expose the bones on my back,
let me show you what i mean

i want to write the perfect song,
and play it just for you,
while you are tangled up in sleep.
i need you more than ill ever know
    until i stop breathing
my lungs will take you for granted."

Also Jim Adkins from Jimmy Eat World..

"I'll say it straight and plain
    I know I've made mistakes
    I've always been afraid
    I've always been afraid

    A thousand nights or more
    I travel east and north
    Please answer the door

    Can you tell me
You say that love goes anywhere
In your darkest time, it's just enough to know it's there
When you go, I'll let you be
But you're killing everything in me

    Get down on your knees
    Whisper what I need
    Something pretty
    Something pretty

I feel that when I'm old
I'll look at you and know
    The world was beautiful

    Then you tell me...
You say that love goes anywhere
In your darkest time, it's just enough to know it's there
When you go, I'll let you be
But you're killing everything in me

I'm done, there's nothing left to show
I try but can't let it go
Are you happy where you're standing still?
Do you really want the sugar pill?
I'll wake up tomorrow and I'll start
    Tonight it feels so hard
As the train approaches Gare Du Nord
As I'm sure your kiss remains employed
    Am I only dreaming?

You say that love goes anywhere
In your darkest time, it's just enough to know it's there
When you go, I'll let you be
But you're killing everything in me

When you go, I'll let you be
But you're killing everything in me"

But most talented lyricist who has put out awesome lyrics on every song on every cd would have to be Maynard James Keenan from Tool/APC.

I don't like most of Tool's songs, but some have some pretty cool lyrics.

Yeah Thrice has some great lyrics.

Though I hate Eminem as a person, I'll admit his lyrics are genius.

  16. hello pedro

    hello pedro Guest

Draw this darkness out like poison
    Stab, retrieve, again decline
Help me drive the dagger deeper
    Trace with me explicit line
Take this blade, a test of faith,
And strike me deep and true
I put all my trust in you

    Refine hate and love
    Fall afresh on me
    End this crisis of
    Identity

This is my voice, all shadows stayed this is my heart, upon the altar laid
Please take all else away, hear my cry, I beg, I plead, I pray
I'll walk into the flame, a calculated risk to further bless your name
So strike me deep and true, and in your strength I will live and die both unto you.

Though his lyrics are sometimes odd and seemingly jibberish, Thom Yorke knows what he is doing.
