I bought a 500A (12ga model) at a pawn shop for 150 clams. Works great, shot about 100 round last weekend.

I wouldn't bother modding it unless the stock doesnt fit you, aiming a pistol grip shotgun is alot less natural that one with a stock. Heat shield coould be handy, when we were doing a bunch of shots quickly and the sun was out it hurt to touch anything but the furniture

I would go with Big 5. I just finish reading the morning paper. Big 5 has some really good deals on Mossbergs. It's pretty much the same deal they had a while back. They have stores in California,Oregon,Washington,Idaho,Arizona,New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, and Nevada.

So how easy is it to buy a shotgun in the bay area, do you have to get all the same permits and waiting periods, etc.

No just go in pay the money and then pick up 10days later. If you have stuff on your record i'm sure you'll get declined.

Hand gun isn't that hard either, just need to pass that dumb safety test, q's are all common sense. Then it's the same thing just wait 10days

Cool, I was thinking of taking up trap or skeet shooting, i dont have any need for a handgun, I live in at apt in one of the safest bay area cities so home defense isn't a problem. Mostly because I have always been interested in firearms and a shotgun has more recreational options along with it.

Don't forget the lasers, bayonett, and curb feelers.
