Have pics in other threads but figured to have just a single thread to record the build of this thing.
Parts started coming in so today I began putting things together.

First the base rifle, the standard Big 5 Mosin M91/30. I didn't care about the stock condition but the barrel is almost mint.

Then the stock ordered which is still about 6 weeks out as it's being handmade.

Now, first in today was the match trigger from Huber Concepts.

And here it is installed. Went in in about 30 seconds. It feels "like Butta!". Almost tempted to just toss it all together and go shoot it a few times tomorrow as is, but patience is a virtue.

Next up was the scope After looking at the mounts I went ahead and decided to use the ATI mount since it puts the scope nice and low, but after having a machinist friend take a look, we realized the screws that came with the kit were total junk. No wonder they are known to break off. So I went ahead and drilled and tapped it much bigger to fit some much better screws.

4/27: New goodie. Freebie from a buddy. A muzzlebrake! It's designed for the smaller M44 barrel but a little work with the dremel and it will fit nice and snug.
Bonus points for making a Mosin even louder. :)

5/8/06: Bolt arrived. It's turned down pretty far but the feel is really good. It does what it's supposed to, it clears the scope mount perfectly.

    The bolt.

Better view of the scope mount and the oversized machine capscrews I used.

Crappy too close pic that shows clearance

And how it looks now. Even with the factory stock it's still pretty cool looking.

It's almost done. Stock finally got here. Pics of it on pg. 4

    Price breakdown is:

    gun:60
stock:100 (I have to do the finish sanding, fitting and staining)
    scope:50
    trigger:60
ATI mount:30 (ebay) plus a couple bucks for the nice stainless steel machine screws.
bolt:60 (decided not to use the ATI one that came in the kit although it wouldn't have been that bad)
    bipod:30

Setting it up next to some unsuspecting .308 shooter on the range and scaring the shit out of him by letting off a round with the classic Nagant boom and flamethrower effects out the barrel?: Priceless :)

I am almost tempted to see if my friend at the machine shop can make me an Armalite-like muzzebrake for it just for more fun.

Did you get your bolt bent by Boltman? or did you buy it from another source?

Another source. Boltman was about 6 weeks backlogged but he recommended another guy who he recommended for good work as well. It's a new bolt so I can keep the stock parts.

But that Mosin looks sweet. After firing my 91/30 yesterday, i am hooked. FUN AS HELL, and a nice boom.

keeping all the original parts so I have the option of switching back. If you want a factory sling though you can find them for about 10 bucks on ebay.

I dont like bubbaizing surplus rifles unless they're post war production, looks like it'll be pretty nice though.

I don't really classify the Nagant as an old suplus rifle as they are still in production. Have you seen the latest version? It's a 91/30 model called the OTs 48 and what got me going on this one's remodel.

Got a suprise today. A friend dropped by and gave me a Mosin muzzlebrake. As he put it, "if you thought a Nagant was loud before, wait til you try this".

Do you have any pics of the scope/scope mount on and the bolt in place?

I'd like to do something similar. Nothing as hardcore but I'm pretty sure I want a scope on mine. I don't really care for the scout style though.

Still waiting for the bolt to show up. It's sitting at the fedex depot in Vegas. I was hoping to get it before the weekend so I could at least take it shooting with the original stock but nooooooooo, fedex didn't bother, so not til Monday.

Bolt arrived finally and now I have to wait til Saturday to take it out and try it. I got this one from www.buymilsurp.com and it's very clean and with it polished it's very smooth.
