I just picked up my M44. I promptly took it apart to see how dirty it was inside. Everything is looking good so far. I will buy a steam cleaner from Walmart on Sunday and get the cleaning. I still wont be able to shoot until I find out how I am going to buy my surplus rounds. Sportsmanguide said they wont ship to my zip code. I am wondering if it was a store policy or county law or something. It was suck ass if I couldnt get any surplus rounds. Last resort would be to head up to a gun show. Does anyone know how much rounds cost at the gunshows? Online, you can get them for about $.12 each shipped.

Also, does anyone know the link to see how "rare" my particular Mosin is?

the local pawn shop has 3 m44's for 85, 100, and 110... would it be worth it to pick one up? i am new to the mosin crew... the 85 dollar one has a stock in pretty bad shape.

I would get one with a stock in good shape and check the barrel. I found mine in nearly unissueed condition for $109

Yeah, make sure you get a nice one. I got mine in perfect arsenal refinished condition (looks new) for $70 from big 5, they get them all the time but make sure you get there early before all the good ones are taken. Best gun ever, the amount of noise it makes is nuts. I love it.

My M44 is a 3 and my M38 is a 2 (maybe 3) :hs:. The M44 looks brand new, though and the M38 is in good shape, too. That's assuming that the stocks on both are laminated. Besides them being shiny and smooth how do you tell if they're laminated?

Yea tomorrow I am going to return the handsteamer in exchange for a can of WD40, brake cleaner, and mineral spirits. Just gotta do it the hard way I guess.

Well, plans changed. I forgot it was Easter and I think Walmart was closed...no one picked up the phones. So I went down the street and got some engine degreaser....it didnt work too well. Then I tried the steamer one more time, but with a little more patience. I say I got about 90% of the stuff out. I still need to do the stock, and I should be good.

Has anyone scoped a Mosin M44? I saw a few different mounts that ranged from $25-70. But they look pretty similar. Has anyone done this? What mounts? What scope?

I want to mount an inexpensive Red Dot on mine, but havent found a Long Eye Relief one yet. And the pistol scopes that are sold are just too pricey. I really just want to spend about $80 on the whole scope and mount :o

  23. They won't ship it to you because they think that it's illegal. Technically it is but it looks like the no ammo law will be ruled unconstitutional.

Verm's has a rail mount that replaces the rear sight that you have to mount a long relief scope or red dot to. Check ebay or google for Nagant scope mount.
That's the easiest because it just replaces the sight with a pin/screws.
If you want to get more permanent then you are looking at drilling and tapping the receiver and replacing the bolt with one with a turndown handle.
