Ok.. Firstly I am not a fan of the Mosin.. Anyone with $50 can come get mine in GA any time they want!

    why ?

Long story short, A buddy of mine bought a cheap scope that was ejected backwards and hit me in the head HARD! Stitches, the entire 9 yards .. I have pictures somewhere.. but anyways, Im reluctant to ever shoot one again.
My fucking ER co pay was more than I paid for the gun!

But the point of this post is some knowledge I have that you can benefit from.

those of you who cut your bolt handle off and attach the new one, firstly be fucking careful not to bottom out the tap! it will snap and you will be in shit! the tap is hard as hell and cant be drilled out! Dont ask how I know.

But the good news is the metal that the new handles come with is an alloy 0002 away from the gun bolt. So I just welded them together, it came out DAMN well and looks factory! I will havea buddy take a picture to show but I suggest welding the bolt handle!

and be careful. That massive recoil will snap a shitty scope!

 For some reason whenever I picture the Mosin crew at the range, you guys fire, there's a huge blast, and then you say "BOOOOOM!" like a 3 year old.

who would have guessed that something designed to cut threads would have to be harder than the material it is cutting

Thats why you buy a bolt with the handle already turned down just in case you want to turn it back original :eek3:

That mount works great IF you do two things...

    1. Toss those crappy mounting screws away. Drill and tap the holes into the receiver bigger, THEN get and use machine screws that are bigger and harder.
    2. Don't use those bolt handles. Spend the few bucks and order a new bolt that has the handle turned down already and polished. They are 1 piece and work great. Plus you now have the old bolt as a backup.

So a little about it? Anything wrong? When you available?

I think you're like a half-hour away from where I work, and I've been lookin for a cheap Mosin.

If it shoots fine, consider it sold. If it's alright w/ you, I can shoot up there after work around 10-10:30 tomorrow night. I'd be hard pressed to get it tonight, but may be able to if necessary.

I'm at work, shoot me an email at [email protected] and we can get the details worked out when I get home.
