Is there much of a difference here, or are the hex shaped receivers just more sought after because they are more rare?

they're not anymore "rare" hex receivers are early/pre war and the theory being that they were not made quickly/hastily. The hex receivers are made of a thicker metal.

If you want quality, just get something made before 1940 :dunno:
