i've decided i'm going to start running again. mainly for the cardiovascular benefits but i'd like to get those bottom 2 abs to show again too :) my schedule is just way too busy after work so mornings are my best option right now...

just wondering those of you who run first thing in the morning, do you run on an empty stomach or do you eat a light breakfast first and then run? i know in the past if i eat/drink a lot before a run i get side cramps. at the same time i've run on empty before and i had ZERO energy. just curious what other FN OTers do.

    Do light running/jogging before eating.

I grab a Gatorade and run about a 10min mile pace for 25 mins then come in and have food.

If you feel yourself get weak, stop, that's not healthy. Should be fine with the carbs in Gatorade or other drink like.

I eat before I run to minimize muscle loss.

i'd say it depends on your goals. If you want max fat loss at at the possible expense of some muscle loss, then run first, eat later. If you want to retain the most muscle possibly hindering fat loss somewhat, then eat protein first.

overall the difference is probably not that great.

I have a shake before running, but I run to work (15 min) and spend a couple hours there without food.

I usually take an EC stack with something slightly sugary like Gatoraid or one of those crystal light packets. not too much fluids or I cramp.

if you run on an empty stomach its meant to burn fat..so in fact it really might help with showing those hard to reach lower 2's...but ur body hasnt had water in awhile due to the sleep, so make sure you have a lil water before the run...besides that, i run all the time on an empty stomach but i make sure i hit it soon after i wake up...i say stick with it for awhile and see if it cant help those abs stick out, cuz cutting fat is what empty stomach running is "meant for"

Maybe in order to understand breakfast we have to look at that word itself. BREAKFAST. Basically, it's made up of two separate words "BRE" and "AKFAST." What do these words mean? It's a mystery and that's why so is breakfast.

I aim to minimize muscle loss (it's easier to lose fat than it is to gain muscle), so I usually have some protein before.

I've never been a big believer of running on an empty stomach, especially coming out of an 8 hour fast. I will usually down some whey isolate before starting my morning cardio.

    werd!

I currently don't eat anything until after the cardio but i'm cutting without much regard for muscle loss.. generally speaking even before not eating first.. i didn't drop much muscle as a result. I do however eat immediately after running.
