    And WoW trounces another....

Well, AoC did it to itself, but whatever.

Such a shame though. Was hoping they could turn that game around.

I was expecting abomb420 to post the news first.

So there's going to be 3 US servers. 3. I knew AoC was having it rough, but that is really bad.

You can't turn a MMO around in this day and age. You either nail it right the first time, or eat your losses. Look at POTBS. They finally released a patch fixing most of their problems but there is no way they will draw in the numbers they had at launch. MMO companies need to learn that if your shit is not 100% polished and complete then it will fail miserably.

I still want to come back to it at some point.

Once I hear news of some mega patch that adds everything that was promised, I'll give it another go.

WoW wasn't 100% polished. They just had a good product and improved upon it even more.

I would be back to it now, if it wasn't for other games that I like, such as Everquest II and Warhammer Online.

I did enjoy Age of Conan for the beautiful graphics and the dungeon running was fun too. I thought team play in AoC was alot of fun in dungeons, and they were beautifully designed as well.

The only gripe I have of the game really is that the items don't look that great, even the good items. And I don't know how endgame is, and that could completely change my opinion of the game if I got there.

But WoW didnt have the competition that the MMO market has now. If any game flubs the launch nowadays, people will just head back to WoW. When WoW launched originally, MMO's were nowhere near as popular and the choices were more limited forcing people to stick with a less than perfect game while it evolved.

WoW hit at the right place at the right time and will not be dethroned for a loooooooooong time.

Really? My favorite thing in AoC was rolling a bear shaman, my brother rolling a guardian and us going around pvping against entire groups and winning

Too bad I cant get my ffa pvp fill from any other game now :squint:

WoW had Everquest II coming out around the same time and people could still default to Everquest I if they wanted. WoW has had it's fair share of competition.

    I'm not debating that.

I'm saying WoW came in at a time when it had no real competition for a casual MMO. Love it or hate it, WoW caters to the casual player with some area to keep hardcore players somewhat entertained.

This is one of the strong points about WoW: the ability to cater to a wide audience. The more people the game caters to, the more people buy it, the more successful it is.

Everquest II has that same strong point, however there are alot of complexities that lead to deeper gameplay. This "deeper gameplay" would flat out confuse alot of beginners, and turn them off the game. WoW chose the road of simplicity, which makes the game easy, therefore catering to an even wider player base. This is one of the reason's WoW was able to bypass the competition.

The strongest point about WoW is its ability to take a thread about AoC and turn it into a thread about WoW in 2 posts flat.

Is directx 10 in the game yet? And is the full PvP system in there? e.g. blood money?

The PvP was totally pointless when I was playing. If one of these things are in the game and done right, I'd give it another go.

Yeah, because directx 10 will make it more fun... :ugh:
