I've always wondered this. Which is one is better if you are trying to build muscle? Which one is better for beginners? I heard one of the two builds tone... I have no idea what that means.

Also, can lifting heavier weights injure your growth plates, and thus stunt your growth.

As always, any help is greatly appreciated!

i believe bodybuilders keep their reps in the 8-12 range for best size gains while powerlifters keep their reps in the 1-3 range for best str gains.

high rep, low weight is one of the biggest myths in the lifting world - i'm not saying not to take some lifts into the higher rep ranges, but building muscle is building muscle.

the whole 'toning' thing is a very large myth. Its pretty funny you made this thread, I was talking to my best friend today and he was wondering why I don't do bicep work - and he responded that I should maybe try to add in some high rep curls "bodybuilder style." after letting him give me his reasoning (he's a total noob at lifting) he's ultimate reason was "well, i always see really hot chicks doing it so i figured it had to work" Fair enough, but I directed him to this link: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/goulet5.htm
and he hasnt been the same since

im sorry if i went off on a rant here... im drunk

I added the third myth too since we have so many wannabe bulemics in this forum.

i switch to high reps, low weight for 2 weeks then get back to a medium or low rep routine

to me, the most important thing is switching it up
