While that is nice, wouldn't the counter-point that nearly all successful oly lifters, bodybuilders, powerlifters, and dudes who just basically look great all share the common bond of doing a shitton of back squats be just as compelling, if not more so? Even if nobody cares about winning an oly competition, most of us still want to look like we do (completely obvious by the 'post how you want to look' threads in here)...and all of those guys have done back squats for decades and decades. I ripped my meniscus apart in my right knee a few years back and sacking up and back squatting has brought it back to much, much stronger than it ever was pre-surgery.

the idea is that front squats will yield the same results with less strain on the knees over time. The study basically infers that those oly lifters, bodybuilders, etc. would look and perform the same had they used front squats

i like FS. i heard that you arent suppose to do more than a few reps since anything after it your form becomes questionable.

    t or f.

How would we know if YOUR form becomes questionable after a few reps?

What? Where did I say that, you asked a question that is impossible to answer. Maybe post a vid of you front squatting if you're really wondering.

I hate front squats, probably because I am a pussy though.

I have a really hard time with breathing when doing them and they absolutely destory my shoulders.

Something you need to get used too. Try to get your shoulders high up

Does clean grip help with shoulder issues? I know with cross grip when I do front squats (over 225) on Monday, my shoulders will still be having issues on shoulder day which is Thursday.

I feel more balanced on a clean grip. Ive done a cross grip and hate it. Most people I train with recommend the clean grip anyways.

clean grip is great if you have the flexibility for it.

and if you don't, work on your flexibility.

and yeah, i feel choked as well, and after some heavy weight my collar bones hurts.

actually your counter-point is irrelevant since the article deals with the relationship of the knee and squatting

    but anyway,
if all those people did front squats instead of back squats how much different would they really look? not much different im sure

Didn't you pass out from them one time?

I saw a couple vids of this and that's the reason why I'll only do front squats inside of a cage where the bar won't fall on my collapsed unconscious body... Doing them out in the open is fuckin scary.

They don't know shit. Bob at the gym has been lifting heavy for 45 years and he does back squats. He might not have been working out with utmost efficiency but fuck it I'll still listen to him.

    I enjoy front squats.

They are much easier on my lower back. I didn't know that about less reps being better. I typically do rep schemes of 8-12 on FS's. Maybe I'll just throw on more weight and drop my reps to 4-5.

I agree. Nothing stimulates leg growth and strength like back squats. My only problem is that I can only do them every few weeks or so because I am in the Evo-Av crew and a pussy :wtc:
