V-10 with an 8500rpm redline!!!!!!!
Some better pics of the ones that George posted.
8,500??? amazing... yes, looks indefinately better than new 5 series.
Damn....I can't wait. I am def excited about this car coming out.
Hey, I guess I'll jump on the bandwagon too........................NOT!! You guys will see soon enough. This car is going to be awesome!!
What exactly is porsche doing that is bering them back to old designs? Porsche is running their company into the ground, and straying from their racing heritage, while BMW is having record sales. And what exactly is so high tech about it?
Apparently Porsche is going back to the old round-style headlights from the 80s-90s. Look out folks, once those babies hit the showroom floor I'm sure everyone will be trading in their e46s for a Porsche . Porshce makes great cars and always will but if anyone should stay away from their old designs and stick to the new ones it's them. Recent Porsche designs > old Porsche designs x 999393993939393939.
As with the Z4, and the E65, I am sure that it will be awesome to drive, as all reports so far are raving about the E60, but it still looks terrible. Fucking terrible. It is a caricature of BMWs previously beautiful form, it is truly a shame, and I hope BMW comes to its senses soon and fires Chris Bangle for bastardizing what was once a beautiful line of cars.
All that is missing is the E65 to complete the retarded family resemblence. I honestly do not think that the E65 could possibly look more comical, from its unnatural, misshapen body lines to the effeminate bulbous kidney grill. The headlights are an atrocity, and really result in a putrid, $50,000 Pontiac look.
I don't care what anyone says, the above is an aesthetic tragedy. Especially when compared to the elegant lines of the E39. And considering that Chris Bangle designed the E39....it just makes his new styling slant all the more quixotic. Once upon a time, the man designed some beautiful cars.
As for the new M5, I wish BMW good luck. Aesthetically I don't care how big the M5's wheels are, or how wide its fenders bulge, it will still be based on the E60 and therefore never be more than a polished turd.
i think you would be in the minority when you say that the new 5 series is a "polished turd." Plus if you look at upcoming mercedes benz designs, they almost mimic some of the design features that BMW is employing. As for the 5 series, in my opinion, it is fast becoming one of my favorite german luxery sedans, and i think that the new M5 will beat the piss out of any sport/luxery sedans both in power and in aesthetics. The e55 and the rs6 will only be able to sit back and watch one of the most beautifly refined cars owns them on the track and out to dinner...
whats even better about bmw is that none of their cars use any type of forced induction, all you are getting is pure refined power. im just saying, the good that bmw, and bangle has done, far out wieghs their failures.
Oh I don't think the E60 is polished at all - It's just a turd.
(It's the M5 that will be the polished version)
However, it is its driving characteristic that will save it IMHO.
And while it would take effort for me to care less about anyone agreeing with my personal opinion, right now it seems - at least from reading the major BMW discussion forums - that the general sentiment is right in line with my own. Also, unfortunately, most of the current 5-series owners I know feel "betrayed" (their words, not mine) as Bangle was supposed to tone down the controversial styling for the successor to the E39, and no such thing happened. I know 5-series owners who have been with the BMW marque since the E28, and who are now looking elsewhere for their E39 replacement - or electing not to replace them at all, and these are people who usually switch cars every 3-4 years. Not good!
Time will tell. I honestly wish BMW luck.
