i haven't bought a video card in a long long time....no idea how to do this....especially not for dual DVI.

i'm looking at the Matrox parhelia 128MB dual-DVI card.

i want to run two samsung 191T's w/ DVI....their native resoultion is 1280x1024...possibly in addition to my current 19'' VGA crt.

my current machine is a P3 700, 512 ram, xp pro. its a few years old but for now it's great for what i do. (music, internet, work stuff....computer can't handle the newest games)

i want to get DVI for DVD's n stuff, but also since i will eventually upgrade the machine i dont want to lowball and get dual VGA.

    some questions:
do i need the 512 GPU?
is 128MB of memory on the vid card enough?
is it going to render the digital video ok on my old crapo machine?

is the card cool or is it overkilll?

the card is like $350...i read a review, and it said it had lower game performance.....but how low is low? is it 2fps lower than the $500 cards?

    What 512 GPU?
    Yes
Yes (depending on situation, games wont be too good but dvd's etc should be fine)

It sucks for gaming, but can't be beat for 2d quality

the review and the web site....talked about a 512 GPU...i'm assuming that means the speed of the chip on the card.

is there a different card i should be looking at? better all-around performance?

    i can't spend $700 on this thing

and can you define "sucks"? how bad is it?

(i'm currently using an old 32MB nvidia card. keke :o )

I think for less than that you could pick up a dual DVI ATI 9800....

I'm running that setup, 1 on DVI and 1 on VGA and LOVE it.

found it for $307 shipped on pricegrabber!

    also....

why 1 DVI and 1 VGA? are there performance problems with running both digital?

i just assumed that if i'm going to get digital i might as well have it on both
