i hope i dont rub anyone the wrong way with this but here goes anyway. with worldwide food prices rising nearly 40% since 2007, with people in some african countries surviving off rats, how do you morally justify a bulking diet to your conscience?

when i stuff myself with food (even cheap foodstuffs like bread, rice, tuna) beyond the limits of satiety just to reach a physical ideal, i cant help but feel guilty.

of course one could make the counter argument that most people are slobs anyway without the aesthetic gain but pointing out the existance of another problem doesnt nullify the one in question.

    thoughts?

Let me ponder that question while i sit at my desk, in my air conditioned room, on my computer while drinking my shake.

I just don't give a fuck about other countries.

By feeling morally guilty about that, you are still

    a) doing nothing to help them
    b) depriving yourself of food

It's retarded both ways. Shake it off, you're basically on a vapid moral soapbox that has no good qualities and/or results

    no.

guilt is a useless emotion. it uses up the mind and keeps it from doing other more useful things. It puts you in a bad mood and other weakens you.

This sounds like a defense mechanism. The defense comes in when something bothers you and you direct emotions at other people (looks like compassion and guilt). In all likelyhood, you are unpleased with something about yourself and haven't quite figured out what it is. Think about it...of all things the concept of "bulking" has bothered you? Last month it could have been a totally different issue.

You are somewhat finger-pointing and it wouldn't surprise me that this thread turns to a shitfest. Did you expect any different? How do you think that makes people here feel? How do you feel about that?

Darwin! Survival of the fittest/most able to adapt to their environment. No morality required.

We have science and technology to keep those that shouldn't be alive ... alive.

I actually thought about this recently when I saw an article about a guy who CAN'T gain weight. He always eats a LOT and a lot of it is junk food. What if the world was composed of 6 billion people who cannot gain weight and all want to eat like this ?

It's all relative. There are people around the world who breathe heavily polluted air (read: China) everyday. How can you in good conscience go outside and breathe that clean air every day?

Comparing the quality of air and the quantity of food is not the same. The quality of their air has no correlation with mine, but our food intake as a group can influence the food availability.

If I don't buy some ground beer at the grocery store it's not like they send it over seas to Africa. Even if everyone in the US stopped buying as much, they wouldn't ship it overseas, they'd just produce less. Not eating as much isn't the answer. There are ways to go about helping those less fortunate but eating less isn't one of them.
