A&P moon pictures coming out weird

    I've been trying to take some pictures of the moon. alot are coming out good, but some are coming out weird, like this:

    anyone know what might cause this?

    I don't know why it would do it, but thats my only guess.

    You're overexposing it.
    Shoot the moon as you'd shoot any other object in full sunlight, because the moon is in fact fully illuminated by the sun.

    It is the UV filter. I've made the same mistake before. Also, take tomash's advice on underexposing it contrary to the camera's meter.

    thanks. turns out it was a combination of overexposure and glare from the uv filter i had on there.

    ISO 200, f16, 1/200 sec, focus to just before infinity with no filters

    Remove any filters and shit from your lens
    Aperture priority
    f/11+
    Manual focus
    Center weighted partial metering
    chimp like crazy on the histogram
    Compensate exposure (if needed)
    ????
    profit

    Took this a while ago.

    If I remember right the exposure was 1/600th or so.

    A couple of Speedlights would help too. Or maybe just one from the side to add some hard lighting.
