I just got the 80-200mm f/2.8 yesterday and realized I need something to help support it when I shoot.

What would you guys suggest as far as a good monopod to use? I want something that isn't huge but still does a really good job of supporting the lens and camera.

Just get a Bogen 680 or whatever theyre called these days. I never use a monopod with a 70-200. You sure you need one?

I have the cheapest one made. I think I paid like 19 bucks for it. Good tripods are one thing, but I just cannot fathom spending good money for a stick with bolt on the end of it. I also feel ridiculous using it on a 70-200mm lens. I dunno, perhaps if I was using 300+mm lens it would help, but I feel like I get no advantage using it. :dunno:

I also plan on getting a 2x tele for it. If the aperture gets knocked to 5.6, I'm sure a monopod will be really nice to have around.

I probably could hand hold it in most cases, but having a good monopod at my disposal if necessary would also be nice.

I bought one and never use it. I either need a tripod or I can hand hold. :dunno:

I just put a 1/4 20 bolt into the long end of a broom handle and it works great.

and actually, to be honest, I've got a decent monopod and I've never once used it... Not one time.... and I've owned it for over 2 years at least.

I bought the Bogen Neotec, returned it an hour later

Got a nice Gitzo instead, but used it all of 3 times, so I sold it here :o

Seriously, I think I shake more with a small(er) lens on a monopod than I do hand holding. Save your money.
