Well, I was afflicted with some pretty bad mononucleosis. I was ill for about 4 weeks, but didnt go to the doctor til week 3. After a little over a week of bedrest, and a big bottle of antibiotics later (for the tonsillitis associated with mono) I felt good. I felt totally "healthy", but was kinda drowsy for about 4-5 days. The next 2 days were totally fine. The next week I felt absolutely 100%. This brings me up to tonight. It's my bday and I'm not sure if I should have a couple drinks or not. When I went to the doctor (in the midst of the worst part of the mono), he told me not to drink for a while, because it can turn into hepatitis since my liver is very sensitive. It's been nearly a month since that point, and like I said, I've felt completely fine for a while.

I'm wondering if anyone out there has experienced mono, and what you did about drinking after you got better. I'm not sure what 3 to 4 drinks will do to my liver at this point.

Bad enough that I havent been able to lift due to my spleen being enlarged from mono :hs:

when you preface the situation with the possibility of those serious risks...none is going to actually tell you to drink

I got mono from a boyfriend when I was 17. fucking sucked. I didnt drink back then so i dunno about that, but I would suggest a lot of rest and suck up those vitamins/OJ and hold off from the drinking until you feel 100% better. it's not like you can't go out for a "belated party" with the guys later

I do feel 100% better, and have felt like that for a week.

I heard mono (being a virus) lingers though.

You would be a fool to drink with the risk of it turning into hepatitis. If your doctor saw this post he would make the :eek4: :nono: :squint: face.

My buddy is still getting over mono after 3 months. He had periods where he felt 100% for days, increased his activity too much, and was then sick again for weeks. I'd wait a little longer.

Went with my gut instinct (pun partially intended) and didn't drink. I think I'm going to hold off for at least another month.

    Thanks for the advice.
