24" lcd samsung monitor turns on but there is no screen
power light is on but screen remains dark, can't access even the monitors brightness controls. Plugged monitor in to two other computers, didn't work either.
Exchanged for a brand new one at futureshop.

However I was wondering if anyone had any idea what had happened? The monitor was only 16 days old and I have a high quality power surge protector. Was it just a dud? Anything I can do to prevent this?

    Thanks in advance

sounds like the backlight went out. Was it LED backlight, or cold cathode? Could be the inverter failed.

Does your surge protector show a green light, or a red light?
If it shows a red light, you have an improper ground and the surge protector will not work. If it shows a green light, then your electronics are protected, and I wouldn't worry about the problem any further.
Samsung is top of the line with lcd's, and it's probably just a fluke that the one you had failed so early.
