On my shotshell boxes, they say use only in firearms safe for modern ammunition or something to that effect. When was the switch from blackpowder to smokeless powder? Obviously I can't shoot modern ammo in my old SxS with Damascus barrels but I do shoot it in my 1944 30-30 and 12 gauge. I also have a mid 1930s .410 bolt action, is this safe for modern ammo?

Late 1800's is when most things switched over anything from the 30's and 40's will be using smokeless powder.

That's what I thought. I guess I don't understand why they still used Damascus and twisted steel barrels in the earlier 1900s if they already had smokeless powder.
