So, I've been thinking about modding my Xbox 360 and I have a couple of questions. Hopefully some of OT's gurus could help me out.

Here's a bit of information before I begin. I have the newest Lite-On. Looking at the picture it's the one with the yellow wires:

Has anyone had success modding this particular drive on their 360? Also what is needed (cables, software) for the mod? I'd like to not spend too much on the mod but if the comes out to the price of a used BenQ i'd rather save me the headache and buy it.

Links, suggestions and tips would be appreciated. :bigthumb:

need more info now besdies just the yellow wires. There are like 3 or 4 different liteons out now. You need to look at the f/w version on the sticker on the outside of the DVD drive.

One version you need a probe to get the key ($30ish dollars?), one of them no special hardware is needed, and one or 2 of them are not even modable.

Whats the manufacture date (on the back of the console)?

    Manufacturer date is 8/24/08.

I'd have to get home to get you the f/w version.

If it's going to be around $30 would it be easier and recommended to buy a different drive (Hitachi/BenQ) on Ebay?

no, because you need that probe to get the key so even if you buy a new drive you will not be able to get the key to inject it into the new drive w/o it. So if you have the 1st liteon revision there is no way around not buying it.

If your was made in aug then you probably have the 2nd revision which is the easiest liteon to mod.

    f/w 74850: need probe
    f/w 83850: no probe needed
~post august 83850 and above: not modable

dl this and read the liteon section: http://jungleflasher.net/files/JungleFlasher.pdf

edit: oh wait, august 08, if it's a liteon then you def have the first one: 74850.

I could probe you for $10, or hell mod it for you for $20. I have the probe and have done several successful flashses.

    Edit: but I'm in dallas.

The current 83850Cs are moddable, and JungleFlasher can natively decrypt the key.

Thanks for the information and the link. Hoping the drive doesn't create too much trouble for me.

I may take you up on this offer if I don't receive any satisfactory results for the drive.

Maybe the later 8's are the new 9's in the old case. Too early to tell...

The old 8's could just have new firmware and just not been relabeled, correct.

But for all those question HHH, he is correct.
