I'm working on helping a friend with a redesign for his website and wanted to get some feedback from MMA fans.

Here is a link to the new site http://dhactionphoto.com/index.php - any thoughts are very much appreciated.

None of the galleries are uploaded yet, but I will update this thread when they are -- he has been shooting UFC since around UFC 55 and also has pics of Elite XC, Pride, K1, WEC, etc...

    Thanks.

    Hey

It was better than I was expecting. The layout is simple and clean.

    * Seeing as it's a photo site, move the "editor's choice" photos further up the page, and shorten the welcome. Maybe move the bulk of that text to the about. I would try to keep the top bit dedicated to the photos, and the text underneath.

    * For the banner ads, change the text to something along the lines of "Your ad here!" which will make it easier to sell, otherwise it can look like a placeholder that slipped through.

    * For the navigation items, change the colour or font and give them some kind of rollover styles, and a style for the item that you're currently looking at/under

    * Experiment with the typography for the site text to make it more readable and easy on the eye. You can do this with the various font css styles without actually changing the fontface (line height and spacing etc)

    * I was going to say that the site doesn't quite pop and maybe needs some colour, but as it will be picture-rich the images should do the popping and locking

I really like the photos. The one of Mac getting KTFO by Mach is awesome.

Kinda generic and it feels like it was designed 5 years ago.

If you're going to say it's generic then you should at least give him some pointers on what YOU would want to see.

I think the site is fine. Love the Rampage + Danzig/Mach pics

I think there is too much text on the main page, I think the page would be fine without the second paragraph.

definitely shorten up the welcome text, most of the time people won't read all of that. Since it's a site focused on photography move up editors choice and maybe put a few more previews to galleries further up the page.
    overall not bad, not bad

definately agree with the main page. Too much text to open like that, I think breaking it up will make it look better / more professional

Ask the webmaster lab for help. They'll give a lot more input and ideas on how to clean up and improve the design.

I'd post this in the webmaster lab.

I don't go to gun crew for help designing a gun website.
