whatup dudes, been way too long since i was on OT, and for that matter the cage.

i got a Persuasive Speech coming up and i chose to discuss why MMA is the one of the safest sports out there.

besides the equipment, and the ways a fight can end what other things can i cover?

in other news i entered myself in my colleges Greek Week sporting event in wrestling, thinking, i've been doing jiu jitsu for a while, i think i can take them.....

    yeah, not really....i lost..it was depressing. :)

fewer repeated blows to the head.

glove design doesn't foster blunt force trauma injuries to the brain.

No standing 8 count. Ref can stop the fight as soon as he feels a fighter is in trouble.

Opportunity for competitors to "tap out" thereby ending the fight immediately.

brain damage sets in when a fighter is KO'd and then receives more punishment. SO in boxing when they are dropped, then given time to recover, it increases damage tot he brain, in mma when you get dropped the ref stops the fight.

fights can end in submission where the goal is to not even hit your opponent.

refs will call a fight if a person becomes unconcious at any momment. even if it is a flash knockout. there was a ufc ref who talked about this in an interview not long ago. look it up.

i would also change it to it being safer than boxing, or maybe football, but saying mma is the safest combat sport is very untrue.

I can smile when its raining.
I did a speech like that. I basically cited the number of deaths per year with boxing, and the number of deaths in MMA. I also talked about ref stoppages for flash KO's, and also that a fight can be stopped by a submission, which wont cause death or injury if the victim taps.

for the "deaths per year" statistic to mean ANYTHING you need to be able to correlate how many fights of each discipline are fought per year....

what i mean is if you say there are 20 deaths per year in boxing and 0.05 in mma and there are 200x more boxing matching being fought per year, the data is less pronounced etc.
