About 2 weeks out and I am using a lot of plyos and oly lifts...thought I would share what I am doing for weight training today....tonight I have a crazy 3 hour mma session so I am taking it relatively easy

My workout today was like this:

    Warm up

    Speed Squat oly Style
    245+Average and Light bands
    8x3

    Power Cleans
    135x5
    185x5
    225x5
    275x5
    305x3x4 sets

    Plyos: (weighted=50pound wieght vest)
    weighted 24" box jumps
    3x8
    weighted 32" box jumps
    3x6
unweighted 42" box jumps (turned out shitty, I couldn't do them in succesion)
    3x4
unweighted 32" single leg box jumps

    Clubell Swipes:
    2x30

    GHR
    3x8 + green average band

i was filming some of my powercleans today and I ended up filming a bunch of other stuff for the hell of it....put together a little plyo montage...lol

you send it link....unless someone wants to host?

What I hate is doing squats earlier in the day and then drilling takedowns. Every movement just feels so sluggish.

 rarely do I see the big guys pull guard. Is your bottom game as strong as or stronger than your top game?

I dont even know how to incroperate my squats anymore, usually squatting 3 times a week, however, my classes have incorperated 200 - 400 squats at the end of class. There may not be weights when we do it, but I sure as hell can assure you a round house kick the next class after heavy squats and high rep no weight squats hurts like hell!

when i am grappling only, I would say yes....plus I can sweep anyone so I pull guard and then sweep to mount quite a bit.

i hate that...I just get through it.....my classes have a ton of bw type drills like mountain climbers and medicine ball jump squats and 8 count burpee type stuff. We typically do them for 3 minutes then rotate to something else for 3 minutes and so on for a good hour at a time.

THe thing that I always try to do is that my weight training and athletic ability are my biggest assets so they get training priority.

Well, i'll tell you one thing... I wouldn't mess with you. I like the kick you did at the end. What MMA arts are you practicing? Muay Thai? BJJ? Oh, and, what was the last exercise again...I can't remember the name? Gluteham raise?

thats good to hear, I haven't really met many big guys that have very technical guards. The biggest guy that I roll with has a sick top game but really crappy guard. So when I am in his guard I always go for an easy pass or a leg lock.

that thing you were doing at the end, I have been seeking a good exercise I can do to strengthen the mucles used to hold guard (biceps femoris I think?) and I've been pointed to something like that. I have been doing weighted lunges but that looks even better. I imagine you have to buy that apparatus to do 'em?

what other exercises can you recommend to strengthen my guard?

I here you, having the athletic ability allows you to worry less about gassing in a fight, and more about 100% intense fighting in the ring!

I generally go, cardio kickbox, advanced mua thai, pankration (each one hour) I feel dead by the end of the night - I will start bringing shakes between classes I think, as my body needs food consistantly to make gains.
