So on our computer at work, my boss "accidentally" removed the drivers for the Mixer Device, therefore there is no sound and we can't play music in our store. I have been trying to find out what device I have to get new drivers all morning but it seems theres no other way around it than the CD that came with the PC..*edit* which I cannot find and don't have access to.

When I click on Volume Control I get this message:

There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, blah blah control panel add hardware.

When I try to add new hardware it can't install the drivers, and I'm wondering if there's anyway to find out what I mixer device I have in the PC?

As far as I can tell from Device Manager there are Legacy Audio drivers still installed, but I can't seem to figure out the mixer issue :squint:

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Try starting or restarting the windows audio service (run\services.msc)

Try running add hardware wizard and tell it to install software automatically.

Is there an unknown audio device listed in device manager? It might be under other devices.

    What brand/model computer is it?

When I run the Wizard I get this:

When I try to automatically install it I get this:

And yes, this is how the device manager looks:

The computer brand/model is Gateway E2300, running on XP Pro w/ SP2.
