Since I started using Opera as my default browser, I went ahead and changed the file associations in Finder (so opening html documents uses Opera by default). However I was still having Firefox pop up (and by "pop up" I mean take a few minutes to load) whenever I would click a link from an email or chat window.

Eventually I remembered that the default web browser is set in the SAFARI APPLICATION PREFERENCES. This does not seem intuitive to me at all. It is a system-wide preference, it should be in the System Preferences. What if I delete Safari, how would I change it then?

Anyway, that's my mini-rant. There is in fact a pref pane that you can add to System Preferences that will let you change this setting (and a lot more protocol helpers, too). It's called More Internet.

i agree that those settings don't belong in there. a lot of internet related settings seem to have migrated into places they don't belong...

What features do Saft and pith helm add. Do you find that you use these features on a daily basis?

Safari is a better overall browser, but I was tired of having to quit it every few hours(mem leak ftl). Camino is a nice light fast browser.
