I recently purchased Elder Scrolls IV and have been having some graphics issues that I can't understand. The opening scene has 2 or 3 square inch blocks all over it in which there are textures and lighting missing. The framefrate is also very poor in the game and during the opening cinematics, which doesn't make sense since my system is relatively high-end. I have a 3Ghz hyper-threaded AMD with 1 gig of DDR ram (dual channel) and a BFG GeForce 7800 GT. Call of Duty 2 works fine for me on the highest resolutions. I have directX 9.0c and the latest nvidia drivers installed. I was wondering if perhaps there are certain effects that the GeForce 7800 GT doesn't handle well. The auto-detect setting on Elder Scrolls set me at the ultra high setting. But even when I reduce all the effects, it still runs like mud.

What other causes could there be for this type of effect and how do I fix it? Are there any optimization or analysis tools I can run to narrow down my problem?
