Her birthday is coming up soon and she's been asking me to take pics of her for months, and I finally had the chance to do it! I think its so much easier to take pics of people who know how to pose, look good, and act in front of the camera... and obviously, she's no exception. ;)

    On a (funny) side story...

As we were starting to take pics, I saw another photographer w/ a couple doing engagement shoot passing us. I nodded and said hi as he was mean muggin' my camera and lens (I think I had the 70-200 on!). He had some kind of Canon and a L lens mounted, w/ his flash mounted on the camera. I had my buddy helping me w/ the umbrella, light, stand, etc.

Didn't pay anymore attention to the other guy and kept doing what we were doing. As we were walking around looking for spots about 20 minutes later, I noticed the girl out of the couple sitting on the sidewalk playing w/ her phone. I didn't think anything of it and would've guessed the photog and her fiance were scouting spots to take pics. As we kept walking, about a half a block from where she was sitting, I see the photog and fiance walking back from the photog's car... with a stand and an umbrella. I looked at my buddy and said "Did I do that...?" and we had ourselves a good little laugh as we kept taking pics. I'd hate to think I made the other guy feel inferior in his lighting, but whatever... I'm not the one trying to show up another photog on a shoot. :mamoru:

Everything from the wide is wayyyyy distorted, especially 2, 9, 10.. not very flattering. Great job on the long lens stuff though, solid.

I think 10 makes her look flattened, and not statuesque as she looks to be in the other pics.

the light on the left of 3 looks a tad hot to me and the wide angle on 10 is a bit unflattering, but otherwise a great set - i was looking at them earlier when you posted on FB.

Did you shoot these all with one light? Excellent work, as always :bigthumb:

    Oh.

My buddy said that the couple might have said something in the lines of "why don't you do things like that?". Either way, it was humorous.

Ya, all with my sb900. The 800 is "broken" and even though it still works, I need to get it fixed ot buy another flash and use it as a spare.

I like it. The sb800 was my workhorse until a guest at the last wedding knocked it off a table and broken the wide angle diffuser. Now, it's stuck at 17mm with no way to adjust the zoom. The sb900 is now the workhorse until I figure out what I want to do.

It does tend to overheat if you burst a lot or use it at full power all the time.

yeah, i broke the diffuser on my 800 too, but i can still zoom. I have a 600 as a 2nd, but I've been thinking of adding a 900 to the bag along with a 3rd umbrella and stand.

hate to sound like an ass, but a $400 flash isn't 'that big of a deal' when it comes to equipment. I would've been more pissed if it was one of my lenses. :o

I'll probably buy another SB900 before my weddings start next year and use this one as a spare or a back up. We'll see. :)

love #8, her smile is natural and she looks like she is enjoying herself.. instead of posed picture it is a very professional personal picture.

what kind of lighting did you use for 6/7/8?
