I usually drink 3 or 4 gallons of skim milk every week. I love milk. I can drink it with any meal, anytime. Anywho, I've been reading that it's not so good for you. It can be bad on a cut, the bloating, ...whatever.

I know there's sugar in it but what other reasons could it be bad? Thoughts...

    I almost forgot... MILK POWER!

Milk is good. Keep drinking it.

If you find yourself wanting to cut, then just cut your milk consumption in half and replace it with water or protein shakes. But for the most part, milk is a lifters best friend.

I don't like milk personally, but I REALLY wish I did; especially when growing up.

if you alone drink 3-4 gallons of milk a week that is a LOT of milk. But its really good for you nutritionally, especially skim. That said, if you are cutting you could cut back to at least 1.5 gal a week and still get most of the nutritional benefits

I figured if I've been drinking milk this long it can't be that bad for you. There's no telling how many thousands of gallons of milk I have put away over the last 24 years. We usually buy 2 gallons every sunday, then we go back wed or thurs to buy a few more things. That means 2 more gallons of milk. My wife only drinks a couple glasses a week.

Milk is actually really -not- useful.
The protein chains in milk are bovine, and are inherently longer/more complex than the ones we use most efficiently.
The vitamins in it are also less efficiently absorbed as all vitamins are through liquid.
Calcium in milk is good level, but calcium is most efficiently absorbed in an acidic environment, and milk is a base environment.
I mean, if it tastes good, and you like the calories, then by all means.
But as for it "making strong bones" etc, consider the fact that we are the only organism that drinks breast milk past the age of one year.

Also interesting to note is that the Japanese, a culture that does not drink milk in general, do not have a world in their language for osteoporosis. Try that on for size.

/Environmental Science class taught me a lot about milk :o

I dunno what kind of hippie taught the class but milk is a great calcium deliverer. Both vitamin D and lactose help with calcium absorption although it's true that acidity plays a role, but yogurt is kinda acidic.
Dunno what's up with the longer protein chains but the bioavailability of dairy products is pretty good...
About the japanese : they also have calcium from other sources. Some kind of tofu and some kinds of soy byproducts are good sources of it, among other things. It's kinda dumb to say "because they don't have osteoporosis a lot and because they don't drink that much milk means we don't need it". We have to consider a lot of habits and food choices.

    Dammit..

I really wish I didn't hate milk and drank a lot more of it growing up. When/if I have a son I am going to make his ass drink like 4 glasses of milk a day.
