Well, I have a spare room in the house that won't be used.. it's almost empty now. I'm thinking of turning it into a nice place to keep my collection.

It's about 8' wide, 20' long, and has a steel door with a nice weatherstrip all the way around. The walls are bare concrete block right now. It's tucked away in the basement, but it's got potential.

I'm thinking of putting a small workbench in there, along with some industrial shelving to hold ammo, parts, and other crap.. also going with a decent-sized safe, as well as pegboard running down one wall to hold older guns that aren't exactly pricey (SKS, Mosin, etc). The room has central heating/air, good lighting, and a very sturdy door that I mentioned earlier.

Anything I'm missing? This room is practically empty right now, so I have no qualms about devoting it to guns entirely.

:bowrofl: I'm thinking about it.. not because I have mall ninja fever or anything, but just because I like for my personal projects to be touch notch, and to really go all out on them.

As far as locks go.. I'm going to stick with the dual deadbolt lock currently in the door. I may swap it out in the future for a keypad, or some other type of specialty lock.. that will just call attention to it though.

 I hope to have something like that when I purchase my own house. Besides what was mentioned might be time to invest in some reloading equipment to setup down there as well.

Out of my mind, brb never.
How about instead of getting a safe, get a nice vault door, and then you can place all of your guns on the walls for easier acess, plus it will look nicer and more impressive.

An upgrade to the already-existing door would make it perfect. The safe I'm still weary about, just because this room is going to be quite secure.. but who knows.

I know most of my C&R goodies will be adorning the walls.

I agree with teh safe door. Then that whole room is a secure safe w/ deadbolted door, etc. I like the look of high gun racks, w/ carpeted shelves and a large work bench in teh middle. If you have one old gun yuo really want to show off, put it in one end of the workbench under thick plexiglass or glass (of course make it so you can get it out).

It would make a kickass reloading area too. dont forget a stereo.

If I had a whole room, I'd set up a gun vice and a gunsmith table with some rubber mats. If possible, I'd also get some lighter colored flooring tiles or mats so I could find any small pins of springs if they happen to get dropped.

Could be a cool place to set up reloading equipment if you wanna get into that.

The area that the workbench will sit on will probably get a large black rubber safety mat, so that anything that drops will show.. plenty of lighting in that area too.

The guns will be going down the wall on pegboard, with flourescent fixtures every so often.

Only thing with that, is that I don't reload, and haven't gotten into it yet. I may in the future, but I'm not there right now.

I'm also going to toss in a filing cabinet, and keep detailed dossiers on my guns.. serial #'s, dates purchased, where/from whom purchased, pictures, etc..

I'm thinking about also running in Ethernet to setup a small desktop.

Fantastic. I never even thought of it, but it's going on the list now.
