How difficult is it to setup an allotment and how easy is it to cancel? Does it take long to go into effect or put a stop to it?

The people I'm renting from will take $25 off my monthly rent if I set one up, but I only signed a 6 month lease so I was wondering if it was worth the trouble.

as easy as talking to your servicing personnel office. i'm not sure about other branches but in the coast guard we have full control of setting up allotments on our own in Direct Access. we can start and stop the payments at our leasure. it depends when you put it into effect, but usually it needs to be performed before the 1st paycheck of the month for it to take effect for the second monthly payment.

if you set it up through mypay.dfas.mil, then yes. If you went through your finance dept, then you have to go talk to them to get it to stop.

There are some things you cannot do. MGIB Kicker must be done through Finance for example.
