My trainer just called me and said he just got off the phone with the GC matchmaker. A guy I used to train with is supposed to have his first fight on GC March card (at my weight) but apparently his opponent hasn't been responding to phone calls. He mentioned me, and the guy said he'd put me on the card if the other guy agrees.

Heres the problem. Like I said I used to train with the guy. In fact, I'm still a member at the gym he trains at (tho I haven't been out there in like 2 months). The guy I train with now worked there briefly before having a falling out with the owner and leaving. He opened his own place about 5 minutes from my house, and imho he's a better trainer, so I started training with him most of the time. Theres a lot of bad blood between the two schools though...most of the experienced fighters at the original gym left when everything boiled over. I've tried to remain as neutral as possible, and I'm still welcome out there whenever I wanna go. I don't want to get in the middle of this, and I know if I take this fight Scott (owner of the old gym) will take it as a personal insult. With that said I really really want a fight, and opponents at my weight are not easy to come by.

What do you think? I dunno what to do:noes:

edit - forgot to mention, the opponent is the guy with the Justin Timberlake tat on his thigh :bowrofl:

Thanks, I needed that. You're right. I am gonna call Scott tho and tell him its not personal, I think thats appropriate.

i'd go in talk to the guy at the original gym and let him know you want to take the fight because you want to fight and it isn't anything personal. at that point if the guy has a problem he's just being a baby. but if you liked the school and trainer the adult thing would be to maintain that relationship, or at least take the couple minutes it would take to attempt to keep that relationship but bottom line is if you want to take the fight take it.

    my 2 cents

I walk at about 140 right now, was planning to fight at 145 but this fight is 135. I usually weight 137-138 after a hard workout so theres really no cut involved.

i didn't say to ask anything. the guy doens't have anything against the gym or trainer so why not just be an adult about it and let the guy know what's going on so he doesn't get his panties in a bunch.

i still think letting the guy know why you are taking the fight is the adult thing to do since you know there is a bunch of extra shit going on. a couple minutes of talking to the guy could chill him down and maintain that relationship so you can still go in there. if he still has a problem with you taking the fight then he's just being a baby

i see what you saying, id didn't mean to ask permission, i just meant why not try to maintain the positive relationship wiht the gym and trainer since he doesn't have anything against them and go in to let them know why he is taking the fight instead of just taking it and the other gym will assume the worse, but i 100% agree it doesn't matter if the guy likes it or not, you want the fight take it

Hmm ok I was wondering because I'm 6' walking at 150. If I was ever to fight I think I'd be facing quite a dilemma. Usually 155 guys are like 5'10" and down with more compact muscle than a lanky 155'er such as myself. So your case seems somewhat proportional. You think being fairly tall in such a low weigh class is a disadvantage or no? I'd figure MT standup would be easier with the reach and the sharp elbows/knees but every other aspect would be a problem.

I plan to bulk a little bit and fight at 145 but right now I can make 135 easily.
