MMA Might buy mats - need advice on thickness

    found mats on craiglist.. cheap as fuck.. 5x10 for like 50 bucks each.. but theyre only 5/8 inch thick.. is that okay for grappling? wont be throwing or anything

    seems pretty thin :dunno:

    how many are you getting? double them up if you find them too thin

    we are thinking of getting 4 of them.. they are the swain roll up kind.. do you know how can we double them up without them slipping? was thinking maybe get cheap puzzle mats and put them on top of that maybe

    It's almost an inch thick, not too bad. Like you said you're just gonna be grappling.

    You're probably going to need to double up 5/8ths. That is really cheap if they are somewhat decent though.

    should be fine for grappling and I agree if you want more, walmart puzzle mats underneath

    ok picked up 4 so we can double up on them.. do i have to buy mat tape or can i use some other tape? also.. what do i clean them with? just bleach?

    12 pieces.

    The edges seperate every once in a while. but i just have to tape them together.

    yup, you will need some mat tape because it won't leave tape residue on the mats

    just use a small amount of bleach to clean them

    Mat tape ideally but that shit's expensive for some reason. You can clean them w/ just household cleaning shit. To be safe, just clean a small corner or something and make sure whatever you're using doesn't damage it.

    must be pretty awesome rolling around on those mats and then hitting your head against the sharp concrete edge jutting out

    This is how i train bjj for the STREETS!

    I'll just put some blankets over the edge next time.

    The room was supposed to be an entertainment room, i was going to put in a projector + screen, but i get much more enjoyment from practicing MA on the bag + rolling.
