I am buying a new car, and decided it is going to be one of these 2 models. I am 22, single, and don't need a car except to entertain myself and get me to and from work.

It will be a year round car, here in Chicago, so I plan on getting it with a hardtop. Which one will be easier to live with? More reliable? Better on gas? More fun to drive?

I don't plan on modding, or anything. I do work on the car myself though, is the MR2 hard to work on? (oil changes and such). I plan on buying used, '99-'02 with less than 50k miles.

Please inform me, I only know german cars.

    Miata.

and I've owned first and second gen MR2s. However since you want a MK3... IDK it just wasnt my style.

I test drove a Miata today, it was a pretty entertaining expeience. I love the way the cockpit wraps around you. I have yet to find a used MR2 in my area.

Miata is cheaper to maintain, cheaper to own, and cheaper to mod. ANd generally, a modded Miata will be much faster then a modded Mk3 MR-2.

Overall, i think you woul dbe much happier with the Miata on a regular basis then the MR-2.

yea that make sense because the MR2 is lighter and has most of its weight right over the back tires:dunno:

see if you can find either a dealership or a private seller that will let you test drive both of them.

    id say miata though.

And the Miata is any better? When I was Xmas shopping, I couldn't buy a toaster oven at Costco because it was too large to fit in the trunk and the passenger seat was already filled. I had to call my sister to pick one up for me. When I went to go buy a boombox, I had to take it out of the box for it to fit in the trunk. Regardless of the car, storage space is minimal. For a daily driver, you might run into some problems, especially if you have a job that requires travelling.

miatas are owning most categories in auto x.

if you're going to be tracking/tuning

n/a high compression miata with itb's is awsome.

    mr2's are crap

And you are a fucking retard that has no clue what he's talking about.

The Mr2 has more power, looks better, and has similar gas mileage to the Miata. The Miata is lighter, handles a bit better, is cheaper, and is smaller.

You really can't go wrong w/ either. They both handle superbly, w/ different characteristics. Light maintenance is the same between the two (an oil change on an MR2 is no harder than any other car) but when you start getting into bigger stuff, like timing belts and water pumps, the MR2 will become much harder to work on.

I would go with the cheaper of the two; if the prices are fairly close, I would go w/ the MR2.

i drive a turbo mk2 i wouldnt give that up for any miata. but if all you want is just a daily driver then both cars have pros and cons which would basically boil down to personal preference. i would still pick the mk3 get a hardtop from japan. slap on a turbo and i would still end up with one mean fast light car. on the other hand if i got the miata and slapped on a turbo it would still be :greddy:... your choice though
