I remember seeing stuff like this on El Paso news about a year ago. Armed Mexican Troops right across the river.

No wonder Mexico is upset that we might build a wall.

Fuck building a wall. Arm the Minutemen and let them take care of the invasion force.

True. I'm sure they're itching to kill themselves some illegals. I mean armed insurgents. :mamoru:

Know what makes me mad; all the damn junk illegal immigrants leave! You cant go 20 feet without finding a damn backpack in the desert around the border. Way to start your illegal life in this country, by littering!

We need that border fence, but not the one we're building.

Penn & Teller did an episode of Bullshit where they hired some "questionable status" workers and had them build a model of the fence. Then when the 6 men were done they were split into 3 groups of 2. One had to go under, one over, and one through. There were bonus cash prizes for whoever was quickest.

I think over was the shortest in the 50s range, under was 2nd around the 1min range, and through was just barely over a minute.

The current design for the fence is an utter joke.

If we build a fence, we should go to Germany and Eastern Europe, I'm sure there are plenty of former soldiers that have lots of experience guarding walls.

Or, for the mexican't soldiers coming over, just give me a supply of 7.5x55 and I'll hang out along the border for awhile :hsugh:

Maybe an electronic frontier. Motion sensors, cameras etc.

Actually the Iron Curtain was more than just a basic border. In order to cut down on the chances of people getting accidentally gunned down you had to go through an increasing number of checks to even get close to the border. Very few people could actually walk the border. The border itself was really not so much of a physical one as one marked by signs and watchtowers, and that's really only with East and West Germany. The rest was just a normal border with some towers here and there. The Berlin Wall was more symbolic than anything else.

If you want to talk about a secure border, go look at the one separating the Koreas. We'd spend an unbelievable amount of money trying to replicate that, even without the land mines.

No the best thing we could is to build a virtual border, which is in place in a lot of high traffic areas already. There are IR cameras dotting the landscape which automatically turn and focus on areas with ground termor sensors that pick up movement which is uncharacteristic. Obviously there's a big difference between a coyote and a pack of 30 people working along in a group. The biggest deficiency with this is that there simply aren't enough border guards to handle the influx.

Physical security needs to be in place around high traffic areas, that's where you build the real walls. The virtual walls are across the entire border, but you need people to go out there and physically enforce that barrier when need be.

As for the Mexican military people, next time they drive a vehicle across the border, let them know with a single .50BMG to the engine block. Hearing the whine of that bullet come in and the bang of that engine tearing itself apart will most likely let them think twice next time.

A mine field with postings could help. We would catch hell but it would work.

A CIWS is a little overkill for a few guys on the border don't you think?

We'd need an awful lot of those to cover the whole border:

    Border = 3141km
Effective full range of Phalanx Block 1B = 9km
Minimum number of Phalanx Black 1Bs Required = 349

The Block 1s cost roughly $5.6m, so it'd be safe to assume the Block 1Bs are more expensive. Just for the sake of easy numbers I'll call it at $6m each. That $2049m, 2.049 BILLION dollars just for the guns themselves. Then imagine all the ammo, even using straight ball ammo instead of the DU or HE ammo they currently use, it's going to be no cheap ticket. Not to mention the fact that you'd have to hire out a defense contractor to design the targeting system for targeting people/vehicles instead of incoming projectiles.

I know you're being kinda sarcastic, but I looked all this up and figured I had to write something.

So, honestly what would happen if an American shot a Mexican soldier on our side of the border?

Would the Mexicans claim he was a migrant worker?
