Slow Shutter speed, iso800 or so, 3.2-5.6 ap, and Lumiquest midibouncer, flash bracket is my setup.

My number one thing for people is to make sure they pay attention to the music and the strobes. Follow it, use it as your back drop. If there is alot of strobing light hitting your subject in the face, example: (Not my picture)

this person should have cranked their FEC to atleast +1 mainly due to the white clothing, ETTL freaks with white clothes (tip number 1), then they should have slowed the shutter speed to capture the oncoming Strobe, see teh pink light on teh right? And then increased teh AP to about 5.6. That way the shutter speed would have allowed for the backdrop of light, the ETTL would have triggered teh flash freezing teh subject, and the Ap of 5.6 would kill just enough ambient light for the faces not to be blown out by the color of the strobe.

    Another example:

Same process, except not as much FEC since the white of teh shirt only throws of fteh flash a little bit. But still needs longer shutter speed and what not

    Example 2
    [IMG]

Since one shows the opposite, too much shutter speed with Rear curtain sync (which i dont like using with longer shutter speeds, there is a time and place this is not one of them) Good exposure for ambient, but too low iso, too slow shutter speed, and rear sync are the culprits in this shot. Hence the streak of light through thier heads, with that weird feathered transparent look.

    same problem
    [IMG]

    and again
    [IMG]

    example 3
    [IMG]

This shows teh common problem when not paying attention to teh strobes... Could have been a great shot. BUUUUTTTT..... Its over shadowed because of teh strobing light of the club. a higher AP could have cured this problem, by killing some of the strobe effect, Crank teh FEC +2/3-1 (again due to most of teh scene having white) and then have your shutter speed at a reasonable 1/3 or so.

    same problem
    [IMG]
    and again
    [IMG]

another example when white fills teh seen and flash gets tricked by it...

I hope this has been educational. I used my old employers site images, because it shows teh quality drop since i left the company. These images are from 3 different photographers, same common mistakes, IMHO. Not to say my images are end all be all, but one thing i can say about my images, are that they are very consistent. And thats what i want, consitency where teh light isnt consistent, i take pride in making the light work for me, and make it look uniform with teh same style.

its always pointed up and bounced into my midi bouncer, i use a Netwon Di100fr2 bracket and the bracket is just above the lens so about the same height it would be if it was mounted on teh body

Your stuff has really progressed, man. I want to bash most of your subjects' coke-filled noses in, but the shots are great.

this may sound stupid but whats the point of the bracket if its mounted at the same height as if it would on the body?

I believe it would be to give a greater distance between the flash and the lens. but his bracket lets him move the flash all around all sides of the camera IIRC

i use the bracket for its ability to move it around the lens axis and not get horrible shadows when in portrait orientation.

She dumped Hef because she wanted kids and he couldnt have them. Then started dating Criss. Both Criss and Holly are super nice people.
