    good choice. if you have a crop camera this is a better choice than the 17-40L.

    17 on a crop body is still decently wide.

    it's about 27mm... I have the 17-40L on my 30D and constantly want wider angle of view. If I was going to do it over again, the 10-22 would be the ONLY wide angle I'd consider for crop body.

    18 wasn't wide enough for me so I got the nikon 12-24

    but i shoot a lot of UWA stuff

    what's "$500 more" about this lens over the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 besides IS?
