I just bought a very well maintained '84 300SD...It's running great, no problems except for it is VERY sluggish...I need to floor it from a full stop to get it to speed up with the rest of traffic, i'm a diesel N00B so please help me out on what I should do.

    THanks..

How many miles and is it a turbo? IIRC diesels wear out after 200,000 miles or so.

The turbo is most likely your problem. You are probably only boosting like 2psi which is next to nothing. They need to be rebuilt long before that mileage. I would say now that it is pretty much destroyed and there is way too much shaft play. Get your turbo rebuilt and you'll notice a significant difference.
