Im trying to make a bootable CD because i dont have a floppy drive. When i download the "Memtest86 v3.2 ISO image (zip)", i unzip it and there is just a .rar file with a .bin file and another file, when i open Nero and try to burn an image to disc, it cant read the file as an image, can someone tell me how i can put memtest86 on a bootable cd? thankyou

The Gentoo Linux live cd has this built in. The ISO can be found on www.gentoo.org

    don't listen to him,

while the gentoo livecd does have this built in I doubt that you want to download that, and boot from a text based linux live cd just so that you can type some commands to run memtest instead of just throwing in a cd rebooting and coming back hours later to get the results.

jollyogre should have been right, there should be a bin and a cue file. The cue file should tell nero how to burn the bin file. Open nero goto open and select the cue file. You may have to select a different default file type but it can be done. The is a command under a menu that says burn disc from image...

I don't have a copy of nero in frount of me but I used it last week to burn memtest so it should work.

There is no cue file, the one file says .IMG, but Nero doesnt see it as a image file, it has to be .iso or some other ones. Heres a screen shot of the file extracted [IMG]

    oh gosh...

You don't want to open the iso file, its a cd image, thats what you want to burn using nero. Just extract the iso and burn it the formentioned way using nero.

Extracting the iso and burning those files to a cd won't work because the ISO also contains the information needed to make it a bootable cd.

Just burn the ISO file in the ZIP, like ryanlindstedt said. Don't extract the IMG file from it.

For general knowledge, most times you can rename a .img to .iso and it will burn fine with Nero (or you can open it as an image by select file type All Files).

WinRAR can open ISO, so it registers itself as the app for that file type.

Extract the .iso file from memtest86-3.2.iso.zip.

You should now have the file memtest86-3.2.iso.

Load up Nero. Cancel all the wizard screens. On the top menu, Click on Recorder->Burn Image.

    Now find the file memtest86-3.2.iso.

And then click the icon on top, with the tooltip (mouse over icon) that says "Burns the current compilation".
