So, I'm talking to a recruiter wed about going OCS after I graduate in december. The ROTC cadre on campus is telling me that I should stay in college for another two years and go ROTC/SMP (I want to join ARNG).

I'm tired of college and feel like I'm spinning wheels, still being 24 and in college.

    OCS Advantage:
Takes less time than ROTC, pays off student loans.

    ROTC Advantage:
    Get a master's degree.

If you could pick between the two, would you choose to go OCS after graduation in december, or join ROTC this semester and stick it out for an extra year and a half while doing SMP in the guard?

with ROTC/smp you are not locked into a 4 year active duty commitment. That is only for people with no prior service. Since you are going National guard, you have the option to be pulled back into the branch your unit is. ie. drill with an aviation unit, guarenteed to branch aviation. One of the advantages of going ROTC is that it allows you to complete school without fear of deployment as well as get paid over a thousand dollars a month as a SMP cadet.

Well shit, I'm like 99% ROTC/SMP now. Not so much worried about that, I already make decent "college" money at the PT Job, but pulled back into the branch I (would) drill with is the very, very pinnacle of sexy hotness.

    So, ROTC/SMP it is.

*sigh* Fuckin' college. Can I just go to ROTC and get a job on the side? (just kidding...kinda)

I want to work, I dont want no more schoolin'

gt07 - Your reason for OCS was that ROTC was too much trouble because of a difficult major, my majors aren't difficult (dual math/CSC major, minor in mid-eastern studies) so that's not a good reason.

However, the ability to get the branch and unit I want via SMP is a very good reason for ROTC.

I'm a noob, but I understand Accord's always talking about how's he's going to join up soon and whatnot, and I feel like I'm doing an awful lot of talking and very little doing.
