Picked up a 15" 2.16 GHz Macbook Pro today with "free" HP printer.

Love it thus far and I imagine I'll have a gang of questions about random things... :noes:

    In!!!

I love my mbp, and I'm sure you will too. Did you buy a new one from Apple or a refurb? If its new I'm assuming its a Core 2 Duo?

Anyways, have fun with it and welcome to the Mac Shack! Don't be shy about asking questions, there is just about always someone in here that'll reply within a few hours.
Look into the program recomendations and workflow actions for programs. www.versiontracker.com has like 95% of the main Applications for OSX so look there to find the actual applications.
Also, give Adium a shot, because Adium>fire :big grin:

it's a core 2 duo. if you look at the iSight, there's no "Active" LED on the top. the core 2 duo's "Active" light is hidden behind the frame. the core duo's have the circle

Thanks for all the interest guys. It is a Core 2 Duo and I bought it brand new from Apple.

The External Hard Drive is a Koutech IO-EEU223 for a 2.5" Laptop Hard Drive. Very compact and the fit finish is very good but most of all it matched the HK Soundsticks perfectly. It is stricly a USB 2.0 device and is powered via the USB 2.0 as well. Bought it at NewEgg for $20 + Shipping.

My Mini DV cam up there is a JVC GR-DVL520U, I've had it now for about 4 years. It works fine as an entry level cam but it still doesn't hold a candle to the GL2s and XL2s I regularily use. It still puts out good shots when setup properly but 3CCD & HD cams surpass the shot quality ten fold.

Oh, that looked like fire which is what I was refering to :big grin:. Guess I've gotten used to my current buddy list that I just assume Adium will look close to it.

Use Acquisition for p2p, I use Azureus for torrents, but most people swear by Transmission. VLC is a must for sure, also get the flip4mac codecs (let you play .wmv in quicktime), if you've got a 360 use connect360 to stream all of your music/videos/photos over your network (my 360 is hardwired but my macbook pro is wireless, everything still worked perfectly), iAlarm is a great alarm that will turn on iTunes at a certain time at a specific volume to a specific playlist, and also has a sleep function, macsaber uses the built in motion sensors to make lightsaber sounds, OnyX does maintanence and cleans stuff up, quicksilver is a much better version of spotlight, Toast is the best for DVD burning, and you're going to want UnRarX to unrar all of your files from torrents if you do that stuff.

Thanks for the link, might buy a 200GB laptop HD, put that in my Macbook Pro then throw the old 100GB in that enclosure.

The USB only is killing me though. I've got no use for Firewire other than my external HD so it doesn't take up a USB slot.
