Maxium protein absorbtion

    I was talking to a personal trainer at my gym (MT/BJJ) and he mentioned that on average, a body can only absorb ~35g protein per meal. While we are on that topic, I told him I was eating 1.5g/protein per pound of body weight, he told me that is simply not needed. He claimed the tests/studies where it was determined that 1.5g/protein per pound of body weight used world class elite athletes, who were on steroids. He went on to say that the regular unjuiced human body simply cant process that much protein. disclaimer: I did not check his facts about the 1.5g/protein per pound of body weight, however I have heard that ~35g maximum absorption per meal statistic before, though I don't know the validity.

    He is wrong. The average body cant process more than 20 grams of protein per meal.

    notice how a large portion of trainers look slightly out of shape or barely in any shape to be giving others advice.

    Yes, the human body, which has evolved over tens of thousands of years of man eating animals for survival, cannot handle slightly more than one ounce of protein at a time. It makes perfect sense.

    The point is.....this is a stupid question that has been asked and answered INFINITI time in this forum. Do some research and then realize that your trainer is just spouting some bs that he was taught in school by a guy that could cut it in med school.

    Jay Cutler use to eat 600 grams of protein a day. What's your PT look like? I'll take Jay's word. :dunno:

    Besides, it's retarded to think that a person can only a certain amount of protein per serving. Larger people, obviously are gonna be able to absorb more per serving and people like body builders or avid lifters who ingest more protein will be able to absorb more since our bodies are use to it. The body adapts to how you treat it. If it never gets protein, it'll have one hell of a time absorbing 60 grams in one serving.
