What does the mac shack prefer? Is it worth the extra $50?

For the 17" MBP of course.

Fuck yeah get matte, it is worth it. I have a unibody MB and good luck using it outdoors in the sun. It won't happen. If there was a matte option available, I would have gotten it for sure.

i wish my white macbook had a matte screen option. i have to clean the screen so often because the lights at work show ever speck of dust, plus i see tons of reflections if the screen is angled wrong

i think there is a company out there that will replace the screen for you as an aftermarket upgrade

I've never had to use a notebook outdoors, so glossy it is for me.

Look's like I'm going matte! I'll tell you guys how it is after I buy it. Just waiting for a contract to be signed off on.

glass > gloss > matt IMO. The matte on the new MBP is disappointing compared to the glass and I have yet to have a problem with reflections, even when using the 17" unibody MBP outdoors.

I always recommend matte... however after looking at the two thousands of times, the gloss looks better. If you need the color correction or plan on being outside a bit, then go with matte. The gloss is much brighter and looks nicer, but the matte is better for specific things.

The glass is the way to go. It's not even that bad, and looks gorgeous.

Damn, now I'm not sure. I need to go to the apple store and compare them side by side.

Go to the apple store and open the same picture in iPhoto on both the matte and glossy screens of the 17" mbp. You will see for yourself that there isn't even a contest. Matte for the BIG time win.

    Apple employee agreed!

Got the Matte. Did was NSX suggested and loaded photos in iPhoto. I then walked around to see how bad the gloss VS matte was. Matte won, hands down. Just DESTROYED it in reflection, color, brightness. Glad I went matte.
