I read all that shit. Im a pro now.
My instructor emailed me that today haha. We're a SBGi affiliated gym. I like his definitions tho.
matt thorton is the head of my gym, straight blast ftw
ever heard of jon kavanaugh?
I also believe that blue belt is the where the open guard should really start to be fleshed out. Open guard is the heart and soul of BJJ
i like how he says that because he has the smoothest back climb, closed guard sweep. its like butter
20 miles? Must be nice. I live in the sticks, closest place for me would be over 100miles away at Greg Jacksons Gym.
You all suck. I drive an hour and a 45 min to my gym.
Nope, wife, kids, and living where I do makes for no fun for Dave.
I just arm chair it.
Is true, I have no room to talk, just enjoy the sport and root for my favs. I did wrestle in HS and in the Navy for the base or ship teams if they had one. Tryed out for the Navy team but was not picked even though I won my 3 matches. I guess I was not inspiring in my wins. Oh well, I had fun.
I think im pretty lucky.
I drive 5 minutes to my clubs gym. Full weights, machines, treadmills, and showers. SBGi affiliated, guy who runs it trains under matt thornton. Cost is $25 a month and I usually go 2-3x a week.
I could drive 10 minutes to Ceasar Gracie, or 35 minutes to American Kickboxing Academy. The bay area is getting to be a very good place to train.
I would train with Cesar, it'll be worth the money/time.
Although I heard stories at his place, not so good stories.
Ive observed a few of his classes, and I train with several guys that have been students over there, and I just dont know if I would be a good fit for how they do things. I like the SBGi aliveness training, the drilling with increasing strength against a resisting opponent. Not just doing the move dead 10 times and then rolling at the end of class. I may still check it out in the comming weeks tho.
and im lucky as well, 5 min to my main dojo, usually 4-5 days a week, and 20 min to my other dojo, 2 days a week.
